    3 random examples

    Kommentar
    A) Three random examples picked from the internet don't make it right.
    B) Three random examples picked from the internet doesn't make it right.

I told someone that A) was wrong ... now I'm not positive. It sounds off to me, AE.
I suggested that "it" is the subject of the sentence. I think may be wrong.

Is this, as a group, considered the subject:
Three random examples picked from the internet
so it would take a singular verb?

Bonus: How do you get that into German. The same problem would occur, I think.
    C) Drei beliebige Beispiele von Google geholt beweisen das nicht.
    D) Drei beliebige Beispiele von Google geholt beweist das nicht.

Ich würde in beiden Fällen nur den Plural als richtig ansehen.

"Three examples do not make it right" - "Three men goes to the bathroom"???

    Nee, echt nicht.

Yes, of course with a shorter example, it seems very obvious. The "don't" in A) just sounds odd to me.

I see where you're coming from (Three million bucks is a lot of money), but I find "doesn't" here very odd.

(Thanks for link, KinkyAfro. I reread that thread today and saw that ghoul has the grammar right?)

At any rate, you really have to say: "Two wrongs don't make a right". "doesn't" sounds, erm, wrong for that saying. :-)

@escoville, I'm curious now about this one: Picking three random examples from the internet don't/doesn't make it right.

Ich glaube mitterweile meinen Denkfehler hier zu verstehen. (don't ist richtig)

Nein, wenn Du sagst "Picking examples", dann Singular. Hier bezieht sich das Verb auf das Gerund (???) "picking", nicht auf die "3 examples".

Just wanted to check that case. I get it now.
    -- Three random examples picked don't ...
    -- Picking three random examples doesn't ...

Formulier den Satz mal um: "Picking three examples does not prove anything". Dann wird's klarer ;-)

;-) My light bulb has brightened. I wanted to quick fully write out the correct versions of both those sentences #10:

-- Three random examples picked from the internet don't make it right.
-- Picking three random examples from the internet doesn't make it right.

    Thanks all.
