    to end up somewhere

    Comment
Is to end up somewhere only mean that you get somewhere where you didn't actually want to go ( after some chaos) or does it also mean that you DID want to get there but it wasn't easy to get there?

Depends on the context. As it stands here there is not hint to tricking, having gotten lost ordifficulty. The person just got there.

In my opinion it does not usually mean that you intended to go somewhere but had trouble doing so.

It could mean simply that it was the final location: They started the evening at the Ritz-Carlton and ended up at Tom's House. (They may or may not have had the intention all along of going to Tom's house.)

Or it could mean that they arrived at the final destination by chance or via an inexplicable process: No matter how the evening begins, we always end up at Pizza Hut.
