In North Dakota (IIRC) you need a street address to register. This requirement effectively disenfranchises numerous Native Americans.
As far as I read, requiring a street address on the approved forms of ID is a very new twist. The reason this is an obvious plot to disenfranchise American Indian voters is because many of them live on sparsely populated reservations where they have only a post office box number at the nearest post office, or their address is a description of their whereabouts. Tribal governments in North Dakota were racing to issue new IDs in the run-up to this month's elections.
I am not opposed to ID requirements for voters in principle. For comparison, consider German law: you may me asked for ID, it typically says that on the "Wahlbenachrichtigung" [*]. In practice, one is rarely asked for ID in Germany since many people vote in polling places where they are personally known. I also don't have an issue with specifically requiring government-issued photo ID, which a student ID is not. Not that this makes the process ultra-secure, as fake driver licenses are a thing (less so today, now that drivers licenses come with a plethora of security measures).
However, one also needs to consider that various Republican-led efforts in the US have restricted permissible forms of IDs with the specific intent of excluding certain minorities who are considered likely Democratic voters. E.g.

The federal court in Richmond found that the primary purpose of North Carolina's [voter ID law] wasn't to stop voter fraud, but rather to disenfranchise minority voters. The judges found that the provisions "target African Americans with almost surgical precision."
