I'm reading a crime story that's partly set in an Amish community, and there's quite a bit of Pennsylvania Dutch in it. I was surprised at how much I understand - I'd expected something akin to Middle High German (I know it's not that old, I just mean in terms of comprehensibility). But most of it is quite obvious.
I don't really have a question; I'd just like to share two words that I found really cute:
("running-around years"; puberty) and
(this one I can't work out linguistically. It must mean something like 'crazy': "I didn't tell anybody about her, because, seeing ghosts, well, Mam and Dat would think I'm all ferhoodled")
Can't wait to work them into my next conversation ;-)
