The fundamental flaw of Levelling Up—Regional inequality is a symptom – not a cause – of our deep-seated national economic malaise.

“Leveling up” has become a catchword of post-Brexit Tory politics. Without once using the word Brexit, the article argues, soberly and cogently to my lay mind, that the policies advocated in the government white paper published in the first week of February are doomed to fail since, ultimately, it confuses cause and effect. The article concludes damningly: “As it stands, the Levelling Up White Paper amounts to a lot of not very much. It sums up the emptiness of this government’s objectives once it had withdrawn from the European Union. For all its sloganising, this government still has no idea what it stands for.”

It is well known that a majority of farmers voted to leave the EU, as did Wales. So stop complaining, this is what you voted for. Your vote cost other people their working, study and travel rights and their retirement plans. You were warned, but every warning was called Project Fear. So much easier to throw around a sneering slogan wasn't it. Now you can see why you should have heeded the warnings. You wanted it, you voted for it, you got it. Now pay for it, as too many of you have forced others to do.

Since most farmers voted to leave the EU *despite* being warned that this sort of thing would happen, I wonder why they are now whining that they got what they voted for? I won't have a moment's concern at any brexit voting farmer going bust. Indeed, I aim to help this along by buying EU produce wherever I have a choice. You lot negatively affected *my* life by ensuring we left, so I'll reciprocate. You won. Deal with it!
