    Hallo,warum wird hier Simple Past genutzt, bzw. Präteritum? Warum nicht "was never gonna come"bzw. "niemals kommen würde" als Retrospektive auf die Zukunft?

    The finest day I ever had was the day I met my wife.

    The finest day I ever had was the day I sat in the park and drank twelve cans of Carlsberg Special Brew.


    You usually use the simple past in sentences like this. The sentence that you quoted is wistful nonsense, based on the same grammatical structure: Der Tag, an dem morgen nie gekommen ist:
