    Portuguese and Portuguese (Brazil) in Software localization

    Hello,

    I'm a software developer.


    I know there exists different language codes for "Portuguese" and "Portuguese (Brazil)". I wonder if users do setup there PC (Windows, GNU Linux, OS X, ...) with "Portuguese (Brazil)"?


    In that case what happens if a specific software doesn't offer a translated GUI for that language code? It falls back to English, right?

    But if the software do offer a translation for "Portuguese" you will miss it or not?


    Or can you setup your PC that way that it can look for multiple translations? Use "Portuguese" if you don't find "Portuguese (Brazil)"?

    Hmmm ... ist das nicht eher eine Frage für ein Computer- oder genauer ein Programmiererforum ?

    I wonder whether this forum is the right place for this kind of question ... I suppose that a forum for software programming would be more appropriate ...

    Danke für die Rückmeldung.

    Sagen wir mal, die Frage ist von Technik beeinflusst. Am Ende möchte ich aber herausfinden, wie ähnlich sich die Sprachen sind bzw. ob deren Unterschied im Kontext von ein paar einfachen Programmfenstern überhaupt eine Rolle spielt.


    Auf Grund von Ressourcen muss ich mich für eine von beiden "Sprachen" entscheiden. Auf welche sollte man sich konzentrieren, mit Blick auf Nutzerzahl und Relevanz?

    Mit Blick auf Nutzerzahl und Relevanz wäre ganz sicher die brasilianische Variante ausschlaggebend..
