    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Comment
I just wanted to wish everyone here on the Forums a happy Thanksgiving.

May those of you who are celebrating enjoy the feast and may all your football teams win (impossible, I know, but the sentiment is what counts). May those of you not celebrating nonetheless sense something of the holiday in the air and thus enjoy today that much more.

    And Happy Thanksgiving to you!

We have not been celebrating Thanksgiving for years now, It is not the same as when the whole family gets togather.
And all the work for a family of five is too much. But even If we have frozen pizza we are thankfull. : )

@Solitudinarian - Happy Thanksgiving to you, too ! We'll be celebrating on Saturday (which we've done for decades, now), since it's impossible to get together during the German working/school week.

and a happy Thanksgiving to you, too, solitudinarian. I was going to convey my best wishes in person, but somehow your invitation to a slap-up vegetarian Thanksgiving dinner at your place (including the address) seems to have got lost in the post...turkey for the cats at least, I hope?

Hmm, obviously I will have to send you my address so this sort of thing never happens again.

Turkey for the girls, yes, but they prefer chewing and eating the bones.

We also had to postpone Thanksgiving to Saturday. But I am very thankful this year: My nephew has decided to spend a greater part of his weekend with us old folks to celebrate. I keep thinking about pumpkin pie all day...

@@Solitudinarian - Did I misunderstand? You let your cats chew on the bones? One of our cats got choked on a chicken bone and almost died.

Yes, I let them chew on the bones. Considering the way they take bones apart, I'm not too afraid of them choking. But I do watch over them when they chew.

    Happy Thanksgiving from me, too.

Pumpkin pie is done, it's too early to put the "Baby Pute" (don't tell my little sister!) in the oven...

I have a conference tomorrow and Saturday (on Thanksgiving weekend...inconsiderate Germans), so I can't cook for my Schwiegerfamilie like last year.

"Baby Pute" so that's how you solved the problem with the oven being too small (if that was you in the other thread). We usually still get a (pretty big, Germans call it huge) Butterball and live with the fact that it gets to dark at the top (and a little dry). I just use that meat for turkey salad the next day.

I hate to say this, but your comment reminded me of The Silence of the Lambs: "It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again."

Sorry. I only had three-and-a-half hours of sleep and I'm feeling a bit punchy now.

This I know, but that does not change the fact that the turkey gets darker on top if it's so big that it almost touches the top of the oven.
But I appreciate your concern, daddy! :-)

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We are celebrating on the 2nd, cause it wouldn't work any other way, at my friend's where we solve the small oven/turkey problem by ripping off its little legs. I will remember not to put the cranberries into the microwave this year, so all should go well. Well, nothing will explode at least. I hope.

Since I've been in Germany, I've always skipped Thanksgiving, but several years ago, I started making a big organic turkey at Christmas that I get from a local farmer. It's expensive (50-60 Euros), but it's the best turkey I've ever eaten and well worth the cost. Much better than those frozen supermarket turkeys.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

So, I'm off to my dinner party. I wish all those celebrating the best - as well as those not celebrating. Happy Thanksgiving!
