Danke für den neuen Faden =)

    Steffi,

Isi, as I was qualifying to be a technician (back in the early 70s) we had an exam every month for three years plus an extra one at the end of each school year, anyone with less than 60% in any of these exams was thrown out as was anyone who had less that 65% in 3 papers. We started with 36 people and finished with 11, I hated that period (probably because they didn't accept any reasons for having less than 60%)

*chuckle* And why do you think that there are so few "qualified" people in England ? The courses - in those days- were draconian to say the least, then in the 80s the Government did a "U" turn and scrapped nearly all apprenticeships relying on technical colleges and the such like to provide qualified people. But to save money a lot of these courses were shortened until the qualifications were hardly worth the paper they were printed on. Now we've got over 2 million Polish electricians, plumbers and builders doing what the Brits are no longer qualified to do.The Government is now considering[/] reintroducing a lot of the apprenticeships to try and reduce the manpower shortage.

G'day people, a very happy thursday to one and all.
The contemporary name comes from the Old English Þunresdæg (with loss of -n-, first in northern dialects, from influence of Old Norse Þorsdagr), meaning "Day of Thunor", this being a rough Germanic equivalent to the Latin Iovis Dies, "Jupiter's Day". Most Germanic and Romance-speaking countries use their languages' equivalents: German Donnerstag, torsdag in Scandinavia, Italian giovedì, Spanish jueves, French jeudi, Catalan dijous, and Romanian joi.

In most of the Indian Languages the word for Thursday is Guruvar, with Guru being the Sanskrit name for the planet Jupiter. In Slavic languages and in Chinese, this day's name is "fourth" (Polish czwartek, Russian четверг, pronounced CHET-vierg). Portuguese, too, uses a number for this day: quinta-feira, "fifth day", (see days of the week for more on the different conventions).

In Thailand, the color associated with Thursday is orange, see Thai solar calendar.
Isi, it's all clear now, you just need to be half asleep when you take your exam, then you can just mumble the answers out.
    :))

Ahh, my boss and the others along side him follow the lines of the "political truth" that everything here is reliable, we never have major problems and the workers are all trained to the peak of their proffession *LOL* When asked questions concerning these topics I just told the truth (as I see it) which is somewhat different to the "official policy". We are not perfect - and therein lies the problem - I refused to lie or tell half truths (it's just the way I am-stupidly honest). And that is the main reason I will never get any higher on the "work" ladder - I'm not political enough (or PC enough).

Some management jokes to lighten up Monday.

    Lesson 1:

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?" The crow answered: "Sure, why not." So the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Management Lesson: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

    Lesson 2:

A turkey was chatting with a bull.
"I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."

"Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients."

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally, after a forenight, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Management Lesson: Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

    Lesson 3:

A little bird was flying South for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung and promptly dug him out and ate him!

    Management Lessons:
    1) Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy.
    2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
    3) And when you're in deep shit, keep your mouth shut.
    :)

Good morning and good-bye, dear out-eaters.

    Great jokes, mykl =)

    So gehabet Euch wohl

I don't know how that accident happened.. But I found it a waste to just throw them away (for you can't eat -and aren't allowed to sell- them anymore after an accident..) or give them to the knacker.. We have an extra room for "slaughtering" them on a farm nearby.. just did the cooking at home..

In the history of science, alchemy refers to both an early form of the investigation of nature and an early philosophical and spiritual discipline, both combining elements of chemistry, metallurgy, physics, medicine, astrology, semiotics, mysticism, spiritualism, and art all as parts of one greater force. Alchemy has been practiced in Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Persia, India, Japan, Korea and China, in Classical Greece and Rome, in the Muslim civilization, and then in Europe up to the 19th century—in a complex network of schools and philosophical systems spanning at least 2500 years.

G'day eople a very happy tuesday.
Tuesday is the day of the week between Monday and Wednesday. The name comes from Middle English Twisday, from Old English Tiwes dæg, named after the Nordic god Tyr, who was the equivalent of the Roman war god Mars, and Greek god Ares/Aries.

In Latin, it is called Martis dies which means "Mars' Day". In Romance languages except Portuguese, the word for "Tuesday" is similar to the Latin name: mardi in French, martes in Spanish, martedì in Italian, dimarts in Catalan, and marţi in Romanian.

Portuguese uses numbers instead of pagan names and so their word for "Tuesday" is terça-feira (the third day).

The English and Scandinavian names are derived from the Nordic god Týr (Old English Tiw)

Hi 4Y nice to have heard from you again, no problems with carneval in Venezuela, or the stresses that OWL has to go through. :)

i would if "the thing" on the couch (what ever it might be) might cause damages/scratches on it (like glasses might do on the glass top of the table when slided around....)

sometimes I would appreciate someone having an eye on my "gathering"... right now I feel quite depressed and hunted by all that stuff... opened a closet in my parents' house and found cloths which I have not worn for about 15 years.. hard to throw them away, though (and hard to wear them being neither quite chic nor - even worse - in my size any more...)

I've got one wardrobe full of things that don't fit or they're momenterally "out of fashion", shirts with collars that you could get airborn with in a strong breeze, bell bottom trousers and suits that Noah could have possibly worn at his civic reception. I'm not a great fan of doilies and the suchlike, I think that's a female thing. A (Canadian) friend of mine is "into" doilies and cheese bells with ornaments under them *shudder* every time I think about the dusting and cleaning I go a bit weak at the knees.Dusting and cleaning, there's another female obsession, I mean you clean everything, dust, vacuum the carpet and polish the windows and in 8 or 9 months - you have to do it all again.*fg*

Aaaaarrrgghhh, what an 'orrible mornibg.A pox on all software engineers who make my life such a misery. After the "new" software yesterday it took ma an hour to get things up and running (normally about 6 minutes) and after I called them back in they tried to tell my boss that this was quite normal. NORMAL ! I went through the roof. There's one advantage of being the lowest of the low - I don't have to be PC (just polite) I asked him if he bought a new car and it took an hour to start - would he keep it ? Anyway they're still here trying to improve the sh*t that they sold us yesterday - my boss has apologised to us for the poor showing from the programmers - and by monday everything will be OK. I might have believed him if we hadn't already been doing this six week "improvement" since september 2006 :(

Good morning adnd a very happy monday to one and all.I hope everyone had as good a weekend as I had.I tend to get a bit excited sometimes about the state of our software, but deep down I know that they are trying their best and it can't be easy to keep hearing from us that yet another "unexpected" development has crept in.What they are trying to do hasn't been done before and with hardware from firms that we haven't used before and I'm sure that there is a lot of "behind the scenes" discussion as to which part isn't living up to its expectations. All well and good, it's just that we still have to keep things moving along and once in a while we all wish for the quiet days that we had before they started dragging us screaming into the 21st. century.

Hear now the words of the Chocolate God, who was called Ghirardelli, Milton Snavely, Hershey, Bosco, Fudgesicle, and by many other names: I am the strength of the candy rack, and the piece that fell on the floor but looks like it may not have gotten too dirty, and the deepest bitterness of dark chocolate. No matter how you try to resist the call of chocolate, I will hunt you out, and I will become your sacred prey. I am warmth of hot cocoa in the dead of winter, and the call of the road that leads you to that really expensive Godiva store downtown. I give you my creatures, the fire of love of chocolate, the power of jaw strength to bite off a piece of that frozen Milky Way bar and the shelter of Haagen Dazs when that big date didn't work out. You are dear to me, and I instill in you my power of a piece of chocolate that you had forgotten you had hidden, and the power of vision and magickal sight with which you can spot a candy counter a mile away. By the powers of the half melted bar in the glorious sun, I charge you, by the darkest depths of the bottom of the cocoa pot and lingering smell of bittersweet chocolate, I charge you, and by the beauty of a perfectly swirled vanilla butter cream, I charge you. Follow your heart and your instinct, wherever they lead you. The wealth in your pocket can buy you treats that a Mayan king would envy. Take joy in that first bite of lecithin emulsified cocoa, and in the last satisfying slurp of Yoo-Hoo. Yet you must be wary of deceit. Eat not of that which is called "baking chocolate, for it is vile and bitter. Lastly, always remember to leave some chocolate behind you. Be not greedy, but let yourself beknown as a conoisseur. Leave a little for someone else. I am with you always, just over your shoulder, or around the next corner. I am the Lord of Chocolate, and when you have reached the end of you hoard, I will never be further away from you than that 7-Eleven on the corner. I am the spirit of the wild child, the inner child who can never get quite enough. If you are a true chocolate-lover, then your soul and mine are intertwined. May the great wings of Inanna enfold you, may the wisdom of Hecate guide you, and above all, may the curiosity of Persephone always keep you fresh, young at heart and mentally alive.

    Australia
Children may not purchase cigarettes, but can smoke them.
You may never leave your car keys in an unattended vehicle.
It is illegal to roam the streets wearing black clothes, felt shoes and black shoe polish on your face as these items are the tools of a cat burglar.
It is illegal to read someone's tarot, or give them a psychic reading as these are forms of witchcraft.

    Thailand
It is illegal to leave your house if you are not wearing underwear.
No one may step on any of the nation's currency.

    Alabama
It is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle.
It is illegal to wear a fake mustache that causes laughter in church.

    California

It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

    Florida
Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the salon owner.
It is illegal to sing in a public place while attired in a swimsuit.
Having sexual relations with a porcupine is illegal.
When having sex, only the missionary position is legal.

    Kansas
Prohibits shooting rabbits from a motorboat.

    Louisiana
It is illegal to rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol

    Nebraska
It is illegal for bar owners to sell beer unless they are simultaneously brewing a kettle of soup.

    New York
The penalty for jumping off a tall building is death.

    Ohio
It is illegal to fish for whales on Sunday

    Texas
It is illegal to take more than three sips of beer at a time while standing.
A recently passed anticrime law requires criminals to give their victims 24 hours notice, either orally or in writing, and to explain the nature of the crime to be committed.
The entire Encyclopedia Britannica is banned in Texas because it contains a formula for making beer at home

Should I come to U one day, it'll be a pleasure to visit your center..
