    Kein Unterschied, aber außerhalb von Poesie und schottischer bzw. irischer Namen nicht anwendbar.

    also macht es Sinn zum Beispiel "sweet child o`mine" oder "sick o' this life" zu schreiben?

    "Sweet child o`mine" sounds good, but also old-fashioned, like the song "Peg o' My Heart," or jocular; I might say "Listen, pal o' mine" before berating a friend (as friends do).


    "Sick o' this life" sounds like a pub for Irish pessimists.

    Long o is however typically heard in US speech with names: O'Brien etc., but in rapid or careless speech this too may level to schwa.
