    Leistung (in Bezug auf Krankenversicherung)

    Subject

    Leistung (in Bezug auf Krankenversicherung)

    [insur.]

    Hallo,

    LG

@ penguin and RES-can: Thank you for your reply. But I am also especially interested in the word "Leistung" in this context.

    Thanks again for your help.

The point we were trying to make is that you would not use the word "Leistung" in an English context.

on second thoughts, "medical procedure" may be what you are looking for, at least for AE

This prophylactic procedure is to be paid privately.
or what the insurer would normally really say in a policy:
    ... is not covered.

If you must translate "Leistung" why don't you just say "treatment"?

To take up yet another old thread:

     ...  Dentists

About NHS dental services, how to find an NHS dentist and how much treatment costs.

    Find a dentist

What dental services are available on the NHS?

Dental treatment for people with special needs

How to find an NHS dentist ...

This treatment are benefits that have to be paid privately.

    + one more (to #15 &16)

I worked in insurance (translation) for many years.

If you are paying yourself (or privately), it cannot be a benefit. Benefits are what you receive if you are so covered by a policy - whether that be public or private (company/employer) insurance.

services/procedure(s)/treatment(s) = Leistungen in this case.

Gotta love these old threads :) :)

#17 Yes, your #6 said it all. Nice alliteration as well!

#9 You're confused by the fact that Leistung translates as both service and benefit, amongst other things (leistung - LEO: Übersetzung im Englisch ⇔ Deutsch Wörterbuch). That the OT is about health insurance has probably contributed to your confusion.

In this case the correct translation is service, but as several people have pointed out, you probably wouldn't want to translate it directly anyway.
