Big Cities, Big Problems
Twenty years ago about 1.5 billion people lived in cities. Today 2.6 billion do. Thirty years from now more than 5 billion of the world´s 8 billion people likely will be city dwellers. Sometime around the end of this century, more than half of the world´s population will live in cities for the first time. This poses formidable challenges in health care and the environment.

Große Städte, große Probleme

Vor zwanzig Jahren lebten etwa 1,5 Milliarden Menschen in Großstädten. Heute sind es bereits 2,6 (Milliarden). In 30 Jahren werden wahrscheinlich mehr als fünf der acht Milliarden Menschen Bewohner solcher Metropolen sein, gegen Ende dieses Jahrhunderts zum ersten Mal mehr als die Hälfte der Weltbevölkerung. Dies stellt große Herausforderungen für Gesundheitsversorgung und Umweltschutz dar.
