Dieselben seien ein Beweis für den Geist, der die Theilnehmer an der Demonstration befeste -- (sehr richtig, Herr Swift. A. d. R ), und die “Führer” der “Volksbande” sollten letztere erst auffordern, ruhig nach Hause zu gehen, ehe sie vom Stadtrath verlangten, ihnen das Wort zu ertheilen (Allgemeines Zischen).

This is in relation to a demonstration at the City Council. A.d.R. has to mean something derogatory in relation to Alderman Swift. Other than the acroynym, I translate as :

"They were proof of the spirit, that the participants of the demonstration attached to – (very correct, Herr Swift A. d. R), and the “Leader” of the mob should request that the mob go home quietly, before he demanded to give it the floor. (A general hiss)"
