    I think it should be "de-di-cate", but I am not sure and I failed finding an answer/confirmation via google...

    I see nothing wrong with de-dicate or dedic-ate.

    However, dedica-te, so beloved of less careful German typesetters, is definitely out.

    RE #3: Is this another AE/BE difference? Does BE tend to be "loosey goosey" when it comes to syllabification/hyphenation? I see that both Collins and Oxford online dictionaries show no syllabification for "dedicate" (and I've noticed that general pattern for other words). Both M-W and AHD show that listed in #1, and they include such listings for just about all words..
    While we (AE) were taught general rules for syllabification in school, we were also taught "when in doubt, look it up."
