It's impossile for somebody to know the "right" Chinese character (漢字 - Hanzi, Kanji, Hanja) in tone languages like e.g. Chinese, Japanese or Korean, just by given the Latinization of the character. There's just too many homophonic cases. That's why context is always important especially in a "tone based" language like e.g. Chinese. Chinese names (family or given names) written in latin alphabet is just an "tonal approximation" of the original character. It*s just like a "bridge of communication" for others to pronounce the right tone without recognizing the character itself.
