    gibt auf google wenig Hits, also 27k, aber manche mit Doppelpunkt dazwischen, daher frage ich.


    Mein Kontext: in der Formel 1 gibt es immer weniger Spielraum für technische Innovationen

    Ergänzend: "lesser" ist nicht denkbar, da less (= weniger) schon der Komparativ ist.

    sacgo meint wahrscheinlich 'fewer and fewer'. Aber das passt auch nicht, denn "Spielraum" ist nicht zählbar.

    ...klingt nicht so extrem.


    Da ich kein Geisteswissenschaftler, sondern Sportmarketer und Wortakrobat bin, wäre ein gewisses biiieeegen der Regeln kein Verbrechen.


    Ich brauche was, das flutscht und einen leicht pejorativen Beigeschmack hat -- wenn ich mal eben einen kleinen Wunschzettel formulieren darf (wo hier gerade die ein oder andere "Instanz" an Translator-Stars zugegen ist).

    Es gibt "ever fewer", aber ob es auch "ever less" gibt, wage ich zu bezweifeln.

    Geht da nur "less and less" ? No, you could rewrite the sentence using phrases like "... a constant decrease in the scope for ....", etc.

    "ever lesser" does not roll off my tongue at all; it sounds absolutely dreadful to me.

    ...klingt nicht so extrem. Says who, and about which "less and less" or "ever lesser" (shudder!)?


    In short, I basically agree with the consensus above.

    Who or what is curbing technical innovation? The F1 regulators, the owners, technical factors, the environment, what?

    In F1, (bla bla) continue(s) to put the brakes on technical innovation? F1 continues to...?

    In F1, (bla bla) increasingly cramps technical innovation? F1 increasingly cramps ...?

    In F1, (bla bla) is putting an ever greater damper technical innovation? F1 is putting ...?

    the regulators (Commercial Rights Holders: Formula One Management Ltd. = Liberty Media ) are taming down this sport, alongside the big teams which belong to stock-noted companies who cannot have anything cheap or save enough...

    stock-noted companies? Like Mercedes (Daimler-Benz)? I would say publicly quoted companies.


    taming down - taking the risk out of?

    "stymied" sounds good.

    1) publicly-quoted: ok

    2) taming down: yes

    3) yes, risk avoiding strategy (big corporations have to apply everywhere)

    Insofern müsste "ever lesser" höchst umgangssprachlich zumindest verstanden werden (wenn auch nicht goutiert), right ?

    Nein; "lesser" gibt es nur in bestimmten Kontexten. In Deinem beispiel ist es nicht ugs., sondern falsch.

    (Beispiel für lesser: mortal sins gegenüber lesser sins)

    Wieder mal ein Beleg für den Befund: "Wenn ein Marketingtext in schlechtem/falschem Englisch verfasst ist, kommt er garantiert aus Deutschland."


    Ich finde es extrem peinlich, dass Marketing"spezialisten" immer noch meinen, ihr Produkt um jeden Preis (!) auf Englisch bewerben zu müssen, ohne jeglichen Respekt vor der Sprache, die sie verwenden, aber nicht beherrschen.

    'lesser' heißt nie "weniger", sondern immer "geringer", "nicht so" ... Es braucht den Vergleich.
