    I dachte, das Wort sei common, konnte es hier aber nicht finden -- und wusste noch nie, was es genau bedeutet.

    I think it's "tire heaters" (Reifenheizer od. dgl.).


    Or, since it's BE, "tyre heaters."

    ---at "Tardis" (it sounds more like "Tardus") he makes a gesture with both hands suggesting a tower, or, yes, a Tardis ...

    "Tardis" and "Tardis-like" actually have OED [yes, what doesn't?] entries, dating back resp. to 1969 and 1984.
