I agree that 'urbane' means suave, sleek, smooth, sophisticated, even understated. Unfortunately, LEO doesn't seem to have any of those options, which might have been confusing to Menger2.
And I don't see what bright blue and orange colors on a watch would have to do with either urbanity or understatement. So I wonder if 'cast in a whole new light' isn't meant to be a play on words, like a euphemism for 'grell / glaring,' which might be urban but is not urbane or understated.
If the target language was a third language and the original was in fact German, however, then it probably was indeed 'urban' and the E was just the adjective ending.
