Um das "abgelegen" mit aufzunehmen, ginge vielleicht auch somewhere afield. Das klingt für mich auch nach "draußen", eher an einem öffentlichen, natürlichen Ort, nicht ganz in der Nähe. Eine abgelegene Stelle in der Natur eben.

I’m not keen on the noun use of “outdoors” in this context. As others have noted, adverbial “outdoors” on its own doesn’t work since the garden is also that. I also thought of trying to use “afield” (“somewhere afield” #10 isn’t a syntactical option though) for the “abgelegene Stelle” + “out of doors”:

“ … living room or garden, or further afield out of doors”

Das geht eher nicht, weil man in der Regel sehr weit fahren muss, um auf unberührte Natur (wilderness) zu treffen.

In der Natur could also mean on the banks of a river or in the woods. There are no open fields near where I live, but quite a few abgelegene Stellen in der Natur.

I'd understand this to mean that if you don't have a garden or a decent-sized living room, you can also do this exercise away from your home, but not in a busy public place.

You should do this exercise with your dog in a suitable space such as your living room, your garden or another quiet spot outdoors.

I don't. It's too specific, for one, and sounds like it's on a farm somewhere. "In der Natur" could also be somewhere in a forest, couldn't it?
