     There are more then enough US american actors who could have played his role convincingly .

    I think it is more common to find the "convincing" trait (or also sometimes believable) expressed through an adjective. I.e.

    Poppy was never fully convincing in her role as an embittered matriarch.

    Donald was thoroughly believable in the role of Gilderoy Lockhard.
