@RES: I have a technical manual for botanical gardens here (which is where the watering is to take place) and they use both irrigation and watering so I guess the use of irrigation isn't restricted to fields.

@Claus: Doesn't "henceforth" specifically mean "from now on"? Can I also use it if they still continue watering during the daytime until the new system has been established, i.e. if the new scheme is going to start at some point in the future rather than right away?
