    so a two-bit anything is something of no great value

    mimic: imitation

    two-bit-cigar: billige Zigarre

    Also, getreu dem Spruch "Lehre eine Mann fischen, und er hat sein Leben lang zu essen":

    'mimic' steht in LEO
    zu two-bit wird eine Diskussion angegeben: related discussion: two-bit photographer

    (zu 'cigar' übrigens auch, und zwar 'lawn cigar'), das dürfte wahrscheinlich auch in Deinen Zusammenhang passen)

    damit müßte die Bedeutung klar werden.

    Könnte das außerdem noch ein Wortspiel sein? Als etwas tautologische Anspielung auf "bit" wie "binary digit"?

    A dollar was originally a Spanish coin worth 8 Reales (hence the dollar symbol, originally an 8 with lines through it)*. A "bit" was one real. However the expression is virtually only used in the form "two bits" (= a quarter) or in its adjectival form two-bit (= cheap).

    Cheap, not very valuable;
    always used before a noun

    Looks like the Cohiba Esplendidos was a great cigar. Will try and pick up a few of those.
