    This is the person who "spots" you during gymnastics, like when you are trying to learn a backwards flip. I don't really think it is called a "spotter". There must be another term.

    OK, so that is a real term? It sounds wierd to me. Can I use it in a thesis about phys.ed. for the university?

    Well, I personally know it from weight lifting, but I do believe it's used in other types of activities as well.

    BTW, I know a spotter as the person who makes sure you don't drop the dumbell (dumbbell?) on your chest when lifting weights. But does it fit for gymnastics?

    Spinal cord injuries can be caused by any of the same events that cause traumatic brain injuries. In addition, causes of SCI include the following:
    Diving into shallow water head first;
    Head-first sports maneuvers such as sliding into a base or tackling; and
    Failure to use a spotter for gymnastics moves.
