Identifying oneself in a photo (i.e. "look, here") vs. making a statment about one's personality (i.e. "that's how I am").

Which version is correct in which case? Is there a difference?

    Vielen Dank!

SuggestionThat's me. / This is me.

Native speaker here. I think that most people would say "That's me," especially if they are pointing at the picture with their finger. In my opinion, however, it wouldn't be wrong to say, "this is me." I can imagine that "this is me" would perhaps be preferred if one were showing a number of pictures of oneself "This is me in 6th grade. This is me in 7th grade. This is me after I got my hair cut short."

    Does that help?

In German, would you say 'Das ist Ich'???

For the photo, an arrow (pointing to the person) with the caption: "That's me" would probably be best.

"This is me." Is OK, but I would (I'd) use the latter.

Rupert, "das ist ich" of course doesn't make any sense, and it has almost nothing to do with the question. Which is much more specific. With "aus der Ich-Sicht des Bildes" it has to be "this" and not "that".

Suggestion'that's me', or 'this is me' in reference to the image

'this is who I am', in reference to personality, sensibility, soul.

Look! This is me in all my glory.
You may even see who I’m in truth.

@shira - wer ich in Wahrheit bin? "Who I really am" NOT "who I'm in truth" :-)
