Ich habe es mit "skim unlawful profits" probiert. Geht das (der einzige Treffer bei google ist eine Übersetzung des deutschen Gesetzes auf einer deutschen homepage, also nicht sehr aussagekräftig...)? Was würde der native sagen?

    Danke

i wouldn't use "skim" here, as that already implies unlawful goings-on, and we can't have the lawbehave unawfully, can we? ;-)
    Maybe: siphon off ...

    Suggestionto siphon off

    is definitely correct.

A little more casual would be: to absorb or to mop up :-))

    Suggestionaward as damages
    Comment
It may depend on what actually happens to these profits. I don't like siphoned off because it sounds like something illegal (just like skim off). My guess is that these illegal profits are awarded as damages to a plaintiff. If not, they migh also be said to be confiscated, which might be another translation here.
