A Flock Of Seagulls
is sometimes known as just Flock Of Seagulls. The flock was started by Mike Score(keyboard and vocal) and his brother, Ali(drum player), in 1979, in Liverpool, England. They recruited Frank Maudsley (bass player), and Paul Reynolds (guitar player). They were most recognized for their 1980's song, I Ran So Far Away, and their MTV video of the song. Mike was previously a hairdresser but he also played the guitar, keyboard, and sang vocals.
The band got their name from the song, Toiler On the Sea, by The Stranglers. The song is on their album, Black and White. The group began writing songs and playing in clubs trying to get a recording contract. Their debut album, which was self titled, A Flock of Seagulls, is about an alien abduction with UFO’s on the cover of the album. Frank Reynolds left the group in 1980 and this left only three so the trio kept going as a threesome and they continued on tour.
