    Grand Lit

    Sources
    From a hotel's brochure.
"Einzelzimmer mit Grand Lit,Dusche, WC, Telefon, Radio,..."

The room itself is called a "Einbettzimmer Grand Lit" which I have translated as "Grand Lit Single room" thinking it was a name but here it is used as a noun and am so a little stuck...

I seem to remember that "grande lit" was French for "big bed" but it has been years since i studied French. I don't understand why they would write it in French anyway??

'grand lit' describes a bed larger than a single bed in a hotel room - for people who are alone but want a larger bed. It's also called 'queen size' in English. Leo gives 'französisches Bett' - is dies ein Begriff?

With Grant Lit literaly meaning "Double Bed", it is a single room with a larger bed. Thus I would use an expression like "super sized". French expressions are sometimes integrated in German language (not very often, though).
