    I'm xxxxx from Germany and at the moment my best friend is as an exchange student in Western Australia. Soon it's her birthday so I was wondering if I could send her a little package containing:
    Some ingredients for making brownies, in a robust and airtight box:
    -flour
    -sugar
    -chocolate sprinkles
    -chopped hazle nuts
    -cocoa

    and a vacuum sealed sausage (speciality of Germany).

    May you inform me about which of these things I'm allowed to send and which not?

    ich schreibe grade an's australische Zollamt, um um genaue Auskunft für ein Päckchen zu bitten. Könntet ihr euch meinen Text noch einmal durchlesen, sagen, ob es gut klingt, Fehler verbessern etc.? Sind die Formalitäten (Anrede usw.) angemessen?

    es sollte eine Backmischung werden, damit sie sich ihre Lieblingsbrownies backen kann... Als nette Geste, aber das kann ich mir wohl abschminken... ;)

    The English was very good with one exception, 'May you inform me...' should be changed to 'Please could you inform me...'.
    But I'm afraid you'll have to think of a different birthday gift.

    Sieht so aus, als ob du was anderes schicken müsstest. Wie wärs mit einer anderen guten deutschen Tradition - Bier - zur Gewichtseinsparung aus der Tüte?

    You will not be allowed to send the sausage. The quarantine rules are very strict (and the fines/sentences are very high). There are some German-style butchers in Australia. Perhaps you can find one on the net and ask them to send something to your friend. Cyril's Delicatessen in Sydney is famous and there is also Rudi's: http://www.rudisbutchery.com.au/
    (Sausages are "smallgoods")

    Und warum merkt niemand an, dass die Übersetzung in "Gegeben - Richtig" nicht richtig ist? Brief ist nicht gleich e-Mail (und auch nicht e-mail, E-mail oder email, was korrektes Englisch wäre, aber eben nicht für Brief).
