who says "halfways" - is that AE, maybe? I'm only familiar with "halfway" without the 's'

BE would certainly use halfway without -s. You could also say Can we meet midway between...

I also would use either "halfway" or "midway." (AE)

And if the distance does not need to be so exact, I might say "partway."

"Meet halfways" is very common in AE - at least in my experience.

My experience in AE has been otherwise. I can't say I've never heard it, but I can't recall it being common. I wonder if it's a regional issue?

I also have occasionally heard "halfways," but it has been uncommon enough (to me) that I considered it a mistake.

AE has many interesting pockets, like the Midwest where lots of people say "acrost" instead of "across," for instance. However, I don't know in what region "halfways" is more prevalent.
