#11 The sun shines for [or on] the righteous
Yes, apparently some people do say this, and it conveys the same idea as the German.
In fact it says something rather different from the biblical original --
... (Matthew 5:44-45). The full quote from the New International Version is: “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
OT: The King James version has
... for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust
-- which inspired the following gem:
The rain it raineth on the just
And also on the unjust fella,
But more upon the just, because
The unjust hath the just's umbrella.
