Der Prälatfasan (Lophura diardi) ist eine Hühnervogelart aus der Familie der Fasanenartigen. Er ist im östlichen Thailand, in Laos, Kambodscha und Vietnam beheimatet. Die Art ist durch zunehmende Waldnutzung und Bejagung bedroht.
Beschreibung
Der Hahn dieser recht schlanken Fasanenart trägt auf dem schwarzbefiederten Kopf einen bis zu 90 mm langen Schopf aus zerschlissenen, schwarzen Federn, der bei Erregung aufgestellt wird. Da die Schäfte dieser Federn kahl sind, wirkt der befiederte Teil wimpelartig. Die unbefiederte Augenregion ist intensiv rot und zeigt auffällige Gesichtslappen. Die Iris ist rot bis rotbraun, der Schnabel schwärzlich hornfarben. Das Körpergefieder ist an Hals, Brust und dem vorderen Rücken grau und trägt eine feingewellte Zeichnung. Die gesamte Unterseite ist schwarz mit sehr breiten, glänzend blauen Säumen. Die Flügellänge liegt zwischen 220 und 240 mm. ...

The Siamese fireback (Lophura diardi) also known as Diard's fireback, is a fairly large, approximately 80 cm long, pheasant. The male has a grey plumage with an extensive facial caruncle, crimson legs and feet, ornamental black crest feathers, reddish brown iris and long curved blackish tail. The female is a brown bird with blackish wing and tail feathers.
The Siamese fireback is distributed to the lowland and evergreen forests of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam in Southeast Asia. This species is also designated as the national bird of Thailand. The female usually lays between four and eight rosy eggs.
The scientific name commemorates the French naturalist Pierre-Médard Diard.
Status
Due to habitat loss and over-hunting in some areas, the Siamese fireback was evaluated as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List, however, it is now Least Concern.[1] ...
