There have recently been unconfirmed reports of this species (i.e. 1982, 1999), however these have not been widely accepted and probably refer to other sympatric species such as the Blackish nightjar C. nigrescens. The reason/s for its disappearance aren't known, although vagrancy may explain why only the holotype is known for certain. Surveys in other areas of suitable habitat may reveal further records of the species. ...

     ... Ecology

The locality has two basic habitat types: the many boulder-strewn rapids on the lower reaches of the river are bordered by closed-canopy forest and more open areas characterised by large boulders, sandy or stony river banks and savanna-like clearings. It has been speculated that it prefers forest clearings as opposed to the rocky substrate favoured by C. nigrescens; now thought to inhabit interior of tall terra firme forest rather than clearings, open areas and riverside vegetation (Costa et al. 2015). Nothing is known of its basic biology and ecological requirements (Cleere and Sharpe 2015). ...

     ... Introduction

On 24 April 1917, Samuel M. Klages collected a nightjar at the Saut Tamanoir (05°09'N 53°45'W) on the Mana River, c.10 km above its confluence with the Cockioco (Kokioko) River, French Guiana. It proved to be a male of an unknown species. Todd 4 described it as the Cayenne Nightjar Nyctipolus (later Caprimulgus) maculosus. The type-specimen (CMNH 60854) now resides in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History collection (Pittsburgh, USA). ...

The Cayenne nightjar (Setopagis maculosa) is a species of bird in the nightjar family only known from a single specimen, a male taken on the Fleuve Mana, French Guiana, in 1917. However, a possible female was caught at the Saül airstrip, French Guiana, in 1982.[2]

    Taxonomy and systematics

The Cayenne nightjar was originally described in 1920 as Nyctipolus maculosus and was later lumped into genus Caprimulgus. Some authors contended that it is not a species, but a subspecies of blackish nightjar (Nyctipolus nigrescens). By the early 2000s it was generally recognized as a species and has been placed in its current genus Setopagis since the early 2010s. Nevertheless, the South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society (AOS) states, " Its placement in Setopagis is entirely tentative", and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Birds of the World agrees.[2][3]

    Description

The Cayenne nightjar is known in certainty only from the holotype, a male. The specimen was measured by two researchers as 22 and 22.5 cm (8.7 and 8.9 in) long. The upperparts are grayish-brown with cinnamon spots and broad blackish brown streaks. ...

    https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engoulevent_de_...
