For Einkaufswagen you would use shopping cart/trolley.

Ich finde Trolley ist sehr allgemein und kann sowohl Gepäck als auch Einkaufswagen beschreiben (die, die ältere Damen hinter sich herziehen, nicht die, in die man seinen Euro als Pfand steckt.) An einem Flughafen würde ich statt trolley eher baggage / Gepäck als Bezeichnung erwarten, würde aber problemlos verstehen, was mit Trolley gemeint ist.

the sign says the above sentence -
nothing about baggage trolley/shopping trolley - and the kids are to translate that.
It's not clear where the sign was found.

I'd like to give them the point for the shopping - context, too - because I can imagine that ,
but I'm not a Native speaker -

If I had to translate it the other way round, I would specify it like you did, but that's not the question.

I think you should tell the children about the problems and that there could be other meanings apart from the airport one, but I´ve never seen a sign in a supermarket which read something like this. Why shouldn´t I be allowed to bring my "Einkaufswagen" to the supermarket? So I understand, that there could be other meanings but I would consider them uncommon in "real life".

Für so weit hergeholt halte ich deinen Gedanken garnicht, nur wenn man ihn nicht mitheimnehmen darf würde ich den Satz als Verbot formulieren. Dagegen bringt die google Suche ja durchaus so Bürotrolleys, da könnte ich mir so ein Schild vorstellen, z. B. vor einem Maschinenraum, wo eben mit den Trolleys was hingefahren wird, die Trolleys aber nicht weiter mitgenommen werden dürfen.

Vielleicht sollte man die Kinder (welche Klasse denn?) aber besser nicht so verwirren, indem man alle raren Ausnahmen, die möglicherweise irgendwo auftauchen könnten,...aufführt. Das Leben ist ja schon schwer genug... ;-)

There's no context, that's the problem for them and for me.
If the task had been:
Someone spotted this sign on an airport in XY. What's its message in German?

But it was just:
Someone spotted this sign in an Engl.speaking country. What's its message in German?

Auf Österreichisch klappt's, da ugs. "Wagerl" beide Arten von Trolley (Einkaufswagen, Gepäckwagen) andeckt.
