My gut feeling is that "forthcoming" has got a lot more urgency than the German "künftig". Insofar the existing LEO-translation convey more fitting counterparts.

Hi, atlantic. I really appreciate your taking time to move the discussion. I know it's a pain, but I'm afraid it's not as clear-cut as you might wish, though it's a suggestion that at least deserves some discussion.

I've already commented in the other thread (link in #0). The upshot: I don't really like 'forthcoming' at all in your sentence about the train station, sorry. Without further context, I would just say 'new train station.'

Or possibly 'future train station,' but only actually if it's been converted from something else; that is, say it's currently a sports stadium but in the future it's going to be a train station.

In other sentences, though, you might have a point. (-:

Ich stimme hier ein wenig mit hm-us ueberein: "new" oder auch "coming" scheint mir eine bessere Uebersetzung zu sein, auch wenn "new" den "in der Zukunft"-Gedanken nicht korrekt ausdrueckt.

Wenn wir uns die Beispiele des DWDS fuer kuenftig anschauen:
- mein künftiger Beruf
- künftiger Arbeitsplatz
- künftiger Wohnort
- seine künftige Heimat
- künftige Zeiten
- das künftige (nächste) Jahr

so wuerde ich bei keinem "forthcoming" fuer die beste Uebersetzung halten.

OT: Ich haette mir von Werner eine postivere Reaktion auf atlantics sofortige Nachlieferung der Quellen im New-Entry Faden gewuenscht (atlantic, ich hoffe, du traegst weiter in dieser Form zu LEO bei), muss ihn aber etwas in Schutz nehmen. Waehrend ich haeufig die New-Entry-Eintraege lese, weil ich denke etwas dabei zu lernen, verschwende ich leider bei den meisten meine Zeit, da ich keine Informationen daraus ziehen kann, ohne mir Definitionen und Kontextbeispiele zu suchen, fuer die der Beitragsschreiber anscheinend keine Zeit hatte.

the future station passt hier gut. Forthcoming bezieht sich mehr auf ein Ereignis - e.g the forthcoming concert

In some contexts (but not atlantics train station example) "soon-to-be" or "in the making" might also work as translations for "künftig".
