"In memory of" has a nice touch. :-))

Aber ich finde wie Helmi, dass 'in memory of' das eleganteste ist.

Assuming that you are the author, you could simply write, "For Uli".

"To Uli" is something I'd personally think more appropriate in a handwritten dedication.

In memory of... has a different meaning. The question if I want to dedicate something to a dead person, can I say "to..." or would it be non-sense in English??

could you elaborate a bit on why "To..." is more appropriate in a handwritten dedication whereas the "For..." works for printed dedications? I'm wondering since I have seen books with a "To..." dedication, just that the person the book was dedicated to was still alive...
