How do I look up whole phrases and idioms, etc.?
Simply enter your phrase or idiom in the search field. If the dictionary cannot find a satisfactory match for your search terms, the phrase or idiom is probably not contained in the dictionary.
Where can I find the conjugation/declension tables for verbs, nouns or adjectives?
Verb table for “gehen”So you want to know the third person plural past perfect of a verb? No problem! Simply click the table icon(if available) and you will see the complete conjugation table for the verb.
How can I type umlauts, accents and other special characters?
You will get the same search results if instead of ä, ö, ü you type ae, oe, ue; you can also type vowels with or without accents, it has no effect on the search results. The same applies to other diacritics such as the cedilla in French (ç) or the tilda (ñ) in Spanish.
Using LEO from within other systems and applications
Many ways lead to Rome :-) Please open the Toolbars & Apps menu in the navigation bar at the top of the page. It contains links to apps (Android, Apple and other smartphones), Lion (Windows integration) and various solutions for browsers.

Why are things like phonetic spelling, a list of common acronyms, conversion tables etc. missing on LEO?

How can I report a mistake in the dictionary?
To correct simple spelling mistakes, typos etc., please make use of the Report a mistake form. The fastest way to get to the form is via the additional information icon to the left of each entry. Another way to get to it is via the Help & More menu in the navigation bar at the top of the site.
If you are not quite sure about an entry in the dictionary and you’d like to hear other people’s opinions, you can start a thread in the Wrong Entry forum (s. FAQ below).

If you would like to donate word lists for integration into our dictionaries we will be happy to hear from you! Please send us an e-mail to the LEO teamso that we can discuss the best course of action.
Naturally we can only include word lists in our dictionaries for which you hold the copyright. As a legal precaution we need to point out the following: By submitting your word lists you agree to give LEO GmbH permission to use the data as required either directly or through third parties.
Do you have plans for other LEO dictionaries?
Our two latest two additions to the LEO family are Portuguese-German and Polish-German (end of 2012).
Whether we will be able to include more language-pairs such as German-Turkish in our existing range of dictionaries depends on whether anyone will donate a large enough collection of vocabulary. So far, however, we have not been able to find a suitable cooperation partner.
Apart from that the usual limiting factors time and money also tend to play a role.
Are the LEO dictionaries available for offline use?
We’re afraid the dictionaries are only available online.
Can I download the LEO dictionaries to my computer?

Why is LEO so slow all of a sudden while other pages are loading fine?
It could be due to a temporary technical fault in which case the problem should not last much longer than 15 minutes.
However, if the problem persists it could be caused by a connection problem. In order to analyse the problem, please run a traceroute to our servers and send us the results. If you have never done a traceroute before and there is no system administrator who could do it for you, please try following the instructions below:
On Unix-based systems (e.g. Linux, MacOS):
Open a terminal window.
Type traceroute dict.leo.org on the command line.
Under Windows:
Go to Start -> Run and type cmd in the search field and click OK.
Type tracert dict.leo.org in the command prompt window and hit Enter.
Please send the output of the traceroute command (e.g. as a screenshot) to the LEO team

Will my suggested translations in the forums be considered for inclusion in the dictionary?
It depends on the forum section. The LEO team regularly checks the New Entry and Wrong Entry forum sections for potential new entries or corrections. It may sometimes take a bit of time until new entries actually show up in the dictionary, please bear with us. All other forum sections are left unchanged although threads in the Chat Room are deleted at irregular intervals.

Um Vokabeln beim Klick auf das -Symbol einem oder mehreren Wortschätzen zuzuordnen, öffnen Sie die Vokabelverwaltung, wählen Sie dort den gewünschten Wortschatz aus und klicken Sie dort auf das -Symbol. Im erscheinenden Fenster können Sie nun einen Haken setzen bei Beim Speichern im Wörterbuch automatisch in diesen Wortschatz einsortieren
